Beginner guide / 01

Start a garden
small enough to learn from.

New gardeners do not need more hacks. They need a first bed or container that fits their light, space, season, and attention.

Three questions

Build a first garden
you can finish.

Pick the real conditions first. The result is a short, beginner-friendly crop list rather than a giant seasonal catalog.

How much direct sun do you have?
Where are you growing?
What season do you want to start for?
01

Find the light first.

Vegetables and flowers need real direct sun. If the space is mostly shaded, start with greens and herbs instead of forcing tomatoes into the wrong spot.

02

Make the first season smaller.

One container or a 4 × 4 foot bed is enough. Pick crops you eat, then repeat a small success.

03

Let location set the timing.

After choosing a crop, use the local planting planner to see whether it is a good week to plant, prepare, or wait.
