About the field guide

A useful starting point,
with clear limits.

Gardening Tips Kit helps a home gardener decide what to check next. It is a planning aid, not an official USDA lookup, a weather service, or a professional diagnosis.

Who

Built for people who want one next action.

Gardening Tips Kit is a small, focused tool for home gardeners in the United States. The site has one primary purpose: turn a broad gardening question into a short, understandable seasonal checklist.

How

A fixed rule set, not a fresh AI answer.

The planner uses a hand-maintained starter library of common vegetables, herbs, and flowers. It combines a location estimate, a zone-level seasonal rule, and the garden types a visitor selects. It does not call an AI model at runtime or pretend to see the visitor's weather, soil, shade, or exact frost date.

Content and rules should be reviewed before major seasonal updates. If a recommendation does not match your local conditions, the local forecast and extension service take priority.

Sources

Start with primary sources.

The growing-zone explanation follows the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map and its guidance on how zones should be used. Crop timing is presented as a practical estimate and should be checked against local university extension guidance for the gardener's region.

Limits

What the plan cannot know.

  • The starter ZIP and city index is not exhaustive.
  • A fallback ZIP estimate can be broad and may not match the official map.
  • Hardiness zones describe average extreme winter cold, not exact planting dates.
  • Local frost, elevation, soil, water, pests, and microclimates can change the right action.

Help improve the tool

Try it in your garden, then tell us what missed.

The fastest way to improve the rules is to hear about a real location, crop, or confusing result.
